August 27, 20132012 In Review: The Spartans were 10-2, losing to Holy Spirit in the Non-Public Group 2 finals after beating Montclair-Kimberley and Gloucester Catholic. They scored 341 points for a 28.42 average, while allowing 156 points for a 13.0 average. Wins included Hunterdon Central, Franklin, and Phillipsburg, while their other loss was to Ridge.

Offense: Immaculata runs a multiple spread and returns six starters. The quarterback has seniors Izy Sanders (5-foot-10, 180) and Sal Fama (5-foot-9, 210) battling. Both will get reps, with Fama lining up at other positions. Returning at running back will be senior Connor Vanderbeek (5-foot-8, 195). The slot receiver has senior Chandler Vanderbeek (5-foot-8, 195) returning and he'll be paired with junior Aedan Szymanski (5-foot-10, 200), with both also getting carries.
The wide receivers will have sophomore Yajaha Banks (5-foot-11, 155) and junior Ibn Bailey (5-foot-10, 180). Pushing for time will be sophomore Riley O'Neill (6-foot-0, 185), senior Cliff Spencer (5-foot-10, 185), senior Joe Riccardonna (5-foot-10, 200), and senior Charles Lynam (5-foot-10, 180). Tight end has senior Joe Vitiello (6-foot-4, 255) back. Also getting time will be junior Griffin Vanderbeek (6-foot-0, 200). Pushing for time will be senior Vinnie Sokalski (5-foot-11, 200).
The line brings back three starters in junior left tackle Dan Peltack (6-foot-4, 275), senior right guard Kole Schleimer (6-foot-3, 260), and senior left guard Vitas Hrynkiewicz (6-foot-4, 290). The frontrunner at right tackle and center are senior Alex Reszutek (6-foot-0, 220) and junior Dave Buono (5-foot-8, 210), respectively. Others in the mix will be junior Clayton Bell (5-foot-10, 240), senior Scott Royster (6-foot-0, 210), senior Christian Rossettie (5-foot-10, 215), senior Kevin Lonsdorf (6-foot-4, 240), and sophomore Shannon Brown (5-foot-11, 245).
Defense: The Spartans run a 4-3 and return six starters and three who played. Vitiello is a returning starter at tackle, moving from end. The nose guard will be Schleimer, who started a few games. In the rotation at tackle will be Peltack and Hrynkiewicz. The ends will be Connor Mullen (6-foot0, 210) and Griffin Vanderbeek, with both seeing action last year. Pushing for time are Reszutek and sophomore Michael Bifano (6-foot-1, 210).
Fama returns at middle linebacker and Sokalski is back at outside linebacker. Battling for time at either outside linebacker post are junior Ian Fallon (6-foot-1, 205), junior Daniel Snyder (6-foot-1, 205), senior Andrew Alexandrou (5-foot-9, 200), freshman John Yorley (5-foot-10, 180), and sophomore Nico McCormick (5-foot-11, 200).
The secondary has two starters returning: Chandler Vanderbeek at cornerback and Connor Vanderbeek at safety. The other cornerback will be Bailey and others fighting for time are Spencer, Sanders, sophomore Alex Hofmann (5-foot-11, 165), and senior Peter Falgiano (5-foot-6, 175). In the mix at the other safety are Riccardonna, Szymanski, Lynam, and O'Neil.
Special Teams: Szymanski will do the kicking and punting, while the return men will be Banks, Bailey, and Chandler Vanderbeek.

Question Marks: Depth on the offensive line and making a consistent effort every day.
Recruiting: Vitiello committed to Boston College. Schleimer is a Patriot League candidate and also has interest from Bryant. Hrynkiewicz is a CAA candidate, including Richmond and James Madison. Sanders has interest from the CAA and the Patriot League. Chandler and Connor Vanderbeek are going to High Point (North Carolina) for lacrosse. Fama committed to Binghamton for lacrosse, while Riccardonna committed to VMI for lacrosse. Spencer, Mullen, and Valgiano are D3 candidates. Sokalski will go baseball.
In the junior class, Peltack is a 1-A prospect. Bailey is 1-AA. Griffin Vanderbeek is a 1-AA prospect, who may go the lacrosse route. Szymanski, Fallon, and Snyder will play somewhere.
