Rutgers among Mavety's latest offers

Nassau Community College in Garden City, N.Y., has been a busy place for recruiting as of late. That's due to the fact that it's home to one of the top offensive tackle recruits in the country. Chad Mavety is now up to fifteen offers, with one of his most recent ones coming from his home state.

The Sparta, N.J., native picked up a Rutgers offer this past week.

"I'm definitely interested because they are my home school," Mavety said of Rutgers. "That's a big thing for me."

Mavety will visit Rutgers on March 30th, but it won't be his first time on campus.

"I've had a chance to get to some games before and they've told me a lot about the program," Mavety said. "I know a lot about coach Flood and they also have a rich history of putting linemen in the league and having All-American linemen. That's a big thing."

Coming out of Sparta High School, Mavety wasn't heavily recruited and he offered some reasons as to why that was the case.

"I'm the same type of player I was in high school. But coming from a small school, I didn't get a lot of exposure. I also had sleep apnoea, so that effected me on the football field. I had surgery and got that all cleaned up. It changed me physically and mentally in the classroom."

The offers have poured in at a furious rate following just one season at Nassau. Mavety currently holds offers from big-name programs such as Alabama, Ohio State and Florida State.

"I didn't expect this much attention, it's great though," Mavety said. "It's a real confidence booster and it's humbling. Now I have to live up to the hype."

Mavety is on track to graduate this December, which will make him eleigible for spring practice in 2014. Of all the schools that are hoping to usher him in, he's been hearing pretty much the same thing.

"I'm actually the top tackle for most of these schools now," Mavety said. "They told me they want me to come in and be their left tackle."

USF was the most recent school to offer Mavety while Wisconsin, USC and Nebraska have all been upping their interest.

Decision time isn't expected to come anytime soon for Mavety, who isn't letting all the attention go to his head.

"I'm the same person, none of this stuff will change me. I'm the same kid I was before the offers. I'm just staying focused on my goals. I don't want to change anything about me. I know I have to be patient and do what's right."
