Class of 2017 QB Max Smyth receiving offers and interest after prep season

Recruiting took a new turn this year for former Palmyra (N.J.) quarterback Max Smyth, who ventured down to North Carolina and played this past season at Jireh Prep Academy. It helped out in numerous ways for the 6-foot-5, 2-15-pound signal caller.

Smyth, who threw for 24 touchdowns this past season, holds offers from Alabama A & M and recently picked up another from Delaware State while a few other schools are recruiting him heavily.

“I am hearing from Appalachian State and Charlotte is really close to offering,” Smyth said. “I think they are going to pull the trigger soon. They told my coach there is a 99.9% chance they are going to offer me a scholarship before Christmas. I have also been in contact with the Tulane offensive coordinator. He said I am No.2 on their board.”

Some official visits are also lined up for Smyth in the immediate future.

“East Tennessee State wanted me to come on an official visit. I am going down to Alabama State on an official visit with a teammate of mine who also has an offer," Smyth said. "Charlotte was talking to me about an official visit before Christmas.”

Smyth is a qualifier and said that he has improved his SAT scores and is now carrying a 3.0 core GPA.

He also credits his prep year at helping him out on the field.

“It helped me see the game differently. We run a college system and it was a college-like atmosphere at practice. It was a lot better playing with a team like that before I got to college. It really helped me out. I am also down to a 4.7 time in the 40. I got that down a lot and got more athletic this year.”

Smyth is looking to enroll for the January semester so a decision could come by the end of December.

Here is a look at Smyth's highlights from this past season at Jireh Prep.
