NJ Varsity Top 25: Groups 1 and 2

There is movement at the top, as Madison and St. Joe's (Hammonton) trade places. There is other movement inside the Top 25, but only one team drops out in Shabazz. There promises to be plenty of movement these next two weeks, as the playoff semi-finals and finals are upon us.
1 - Madison (10-0). Last week: (2). The Dodgers beat Millburn, 77-21, and have outscored opponents 505-109. They have won two consecutive sectional titles and have won 35 straight. Wins include #16 Lenape Valley, 6-4 Hanover Park, and 6-4 Jefferson. This week: #13 Bernards at home, Saturday afternoon.

2 - St. Joe's, Hammonton (8-1). Last week: (1). The Wildcats lost to Hammonton, 14-6, and have outscored opponents, 246-107, playing a tough, big school schedule. They have posted three shutouts and won three consecutive state titles. Hammonton is their only loss, while wins include 8-2 Atlantic City, 8-2 St. Augustine, 6-4 Millville, 6-4 Absegami, and 6-4 Holy Spirit. This week: 5-4-1 Hudson Catholic at home, Saturday afternoon.
3 - West Deptford (10-0). Last week: (3). The Eagles beat Paulsboro, 28-20, and have outscored opponents 422-137. They have won five sectional titles since 2002 and appeared in eight finals in that time. Wins include #14 Woodbury, 7-3 Paulsboro, and 6-4 Haddonfield. This week: 7-3 Woodstown at home, Friday night.
4 - Pompton Lakes (10-0). Last week: (4). The Cardinals had a bye week and have outscored opponents, 426-46. They won a sectional last year and have won three of the four finals they have appeared in since 1997. Wins include #21 Hasbrouck Heights, 8-2 New Milford, and 5-5 Verona. This week: at #23 Saddle Brook, Saturday afternoon.
5 - Penns Grove (10-0). Last week: (5). The Red Devils posted their eighth shutout this year against Pennsville, winning 66-0, and have outscored the opposition, 538-26. Wins include #9 Glassboro and 7-3 Woodstown. This week: 7-3 Paulsboro at home, Saturday afternoon.
6 - Immaculata (9-1). Last week: (7). The Spartans had a bye week and have outscored opponents, 286-119, playing a large school schedule. Their lone loss was to Ridge and wins include 6-4 Franklin, 5-4-1 Hunterdon Central, and 6-4 Watchung Hills. This week: 5-5 Montclair Kimberley at home, Friday night.
7 - Caldwell (9-1). The Chiefs beat Verona, 33-29, in overtime. They have outscored opponents 353-153 and have won three sectionals since 1997. They appeared in four finals plus four more semi-finals. Their lone loss is to West Essex and wins include #8 Cedar Grove, 7-3 Lincoln, and 5-5 Verona. This week: at #12 Mountain Lakes, Saturday afternoon.
8 - Cedar Grove (9-1). Last week: (9). The Panthers had a bye week and have outscored opponents, 341-167. They have won five sectionals since 2000, appearing in six. Their lone loss is to #7 Caldwell and wins include #22 Weequahic, 7-3 Shabazz, and 5-5 Verona. This week: #21 Hasbrouck Heights at home.
9 - Glassboro (9-1). Last week: (10). The Bulldogs beat Deptford, 48-12, outscoring the opposition, 411-120. They have won the last two sectional titles and four of the last five, plus three more finals appearances since 2000. Their lone loss was to #5 Penns Grove and wins include 7-3 Woodstown and 7-3 Gloucester City. This week: at #14 Woodbury, Saturday afternoon.
10 - Carteret (10-0). Last week: (12). The Ramblers beat Perth Amboy, 41-0, and have outscored opponents, 371-118, winning a sectional in 2007. Wins include 9-1 Colonia, Group 4 Woodbridge, and 6-4 Johnson. This week: 7-3 Shabazz at home, Friday night.
11 - Point Pleasant Beach (10-0). Last week: (14). The Gulls beat Shore Regional, 19-7, and have outscored opponents 423-104. Wins include #15 Shore Regional, 8-2 Dunellen, and 6-3-1 Asbury Park. This week: #18 Florence at home, Friday night.
12 - Mountain Lakes (10-0). Last week: (13). The Herd had a bye week and they have outscored opponents, 368-130. They have won three sectionals since 2002, appearing in five finals. Wins include 8-2 Butler, 8-2 North Warren, and 7-3 Kinnelon. This week: #7 Caldwell at home, Saturday afternoon.
13 - Bernards (9-1). Last week: (6). The Mountaineers lost to Delaware Valley, 26-7, and have outscored opponents, 379-140. The loss to 7-3 Delaware Valley was their first, with wins coming against #16 Lenape Valley, plus two 8-2 teams in New Providence and Roselle Park. This week: at #1 Madison, Saturday afternoon.
14 - Woodbury (9-1). Last week: (16). The Thundering Herd beat Gateway, 58-0, outscoring opponents 370-97. They have had three finals appearances since 1998, winning two, including 2009. Their lone loss is to #3 West Deptford and wins include 7-3 Paulsboro and 6-4 Haddonfield. This week: #9 Glassboro at home, Saturday afternoon.
15 - Shore Regional (8-2). Last week: (11). The Blue Devils lost to Point Pleasant Beach, 19-7, and have outscored opponents, 337-108. They won a sectional title in 2010. Their losses are to #11 Point Pleasant Beach and #25 Rumson-Fair Haven. Wins include 6-3-1 Asbury Park and 6-4 Keyport. This week: 6-3-1 Asbury Park, Friday night.
16 - Lenape Valley (8-2). Last week: (17). The Patriots completed their season. They outscored opponents, 301-144. Losses were close games to #1 Madison and #13 Bernards. Wins included 6-4 Hanover Park and 6-4 Jefferson. This week: Season is complete.
17 - St. Mary's (10-0). Last week: (18). The Gaels had a bye week and have scored 430 points this year, allowing 122. They won a sectional in 2006. Wins included 7-3 Weehawken and 6-4 Cresskill. This week: 8-2 St. Anthony at home, Saturday afternoon.
18 - Delran (9-1). Last week: (15). The Bears lost to Cinnaminson, 17-14, and have outscored opponents, 272-130. Wins include #19 Florence, 6-4 Willingboro, and 5-5 Holy Cross. This week: #22 Weequahic at home, Friday night.
19 - Florence (9-1). Last week: (19). The Flashes beat Riverside, 48-12, outscoring opponents, 319-101. They were in the finals last year and have won four sectionals from 2003-2006. Their loss is to #18 Delran and wins include 6-4 New Egypt and 6-4 Maple Shade. This week: at #11 Point Pleasant Beach, Friday night.
20 - Cedar Creek (9-1). Last week: (20). The Pirates lost to St. Augustine, 41-40, in overtime and outscored the opposition, 402-106. St. Augustine is their lone loss and wins include 6-4 Bridgeton and 6-4 Middle Township. This week: 6-4 Willingboro at home, Saturday afternoon.
21 - Hasbrouck Heights (8-2). Last week: (21). The Aviators had a bye week. Opponents have been outscored 301-155. They have won two sectional titles since 1994 and appeared in four finals. Losses were to #4 Pompton Lakes and 8-2 Palisades Park. Wins include #23 Saddle Brook and 8-2 Butler. This week: at #8 Cedar Grove, Friday night.
22 - Weequahic (8-2). Last week: (23-tie). The Indians beat Shabazz, 33-0, and are four points away from being undefeated. They scored 318 points for the year and allowed 111. Losses were to #8 Cedar Grove and Group 4 West Milford. Wins include 7-3 Shabazz, 7-3 Rumson-Fair Haven, and 5-5 Verona. This week: at #20 Delran, Friday night.
23 - Saddle Brook (9-1). Last week: (22). The Falcons had a bye week and have outscored opponents, 339-135. Their lone loss was to #21 Hasbrouck Heights and wins included 8-2 Palisades Park and 8-2 New Milford. This week: #4 Pompton Lakes at home, Saturday afternoon.
24 - Hoboken (8-2). Last week: (23-tie). The Red Wings had a bye week and are five points away from being undefeated. Losses were to 5-5 Verona and Group 5 Union City, while wins include 8-2 St. Anthony, 7-3 Lincoln, and 6-4 Jefferson. They scored 338 points and allowed 98. This week: 8-2 Dunellen at home, Friday night.
25 - Rumson-Fair Haven (7-3). Last week: Unranked. The three straight losses have hurt them, but they were to Red Bank Catholic, Weequahic, and 5-5 Manasquan. They have scored 207 points and allowed 111, with a 28-12 loss to undefeated RBC on Thanksgiving Day. Wins include #15 Shore Regional, 6-4 St. John Vianney, and 6-4 Monsignor Donovan. They won a state title two years ago and lost in the final last year. This week: Season complete.
