Team Preview: Delbarton Green Wave

2010 In Review: The Green Wave were 5-5, losing to Pope John in the first round of the Non-Public Group 3 playoffs. They scored 141 points for a 14.1 average, while allowing 182 points for an 18.2 average. Wins included Roxbury, West Essex, and Morristown. Losses included Pope John, Randolph, and West Morris.
Departures: OL/DL Spenser Huston - Princeton, OL/DL Luke Chiarlonzo - Lafayette, RB Jamie Hislop - Middlebury

Offense: Delbarton runs a multiple I and returns seven starters. The returning quarterback is senior John Shaffer (6-foot-1, 175). Both running backs return with junior Jamie White (5-foot-10, 180) and Eric Fajardo (5-foot-9, 185). Also pushing for time is junior Sean DeLosa (5-foot-5, 135). When a true fullback is used, it will be senior Dennis Bencsko (6-foot-0, 205) and he'll be supported by sophomore Rob Arcinio (6-foot-0, 210).
One wide receiver and the tight end are back. Junior Tim Mason (6-foot-0, 170) returns at wide receiver, with juniors Matt Killian (6-foot-0, 175) and JP Campbell (6-foot-0, 170) vying for the other wideout. The returnee at tight end is senior Cole Riccardi (6-foot-3, 200) and he'll be pushed by junior Rob Thoma (6-foot-3, 195).
The line has two returning starters in senior tackle Don Alvine (6-foot-1, 250) and junior center Will Reynolds (6-foot-2, 210). Competing for the other three positions are junior Peter Bergh (6-foot-0, 215), junior Brian Reilly (6-foot-3, 225), junior Nayi Odewade (5-foot-11, 260), junior Chris McGuire (5-foot-9, 210), junior Casey Moran (6-foot-0, 205), senior Chris Soulas (5-foot-9, 190), and sophomore Michael Parowski (6-foot-0, 210).
Defense: The Green Wave runs a 3-4 and returns six starters and a couple who started. Alvine returns as an end, with Bergh and Thoma in the running on the opposite side. Odewade will play nose tackle.
Four linebackers return. Bencsko is a three year starter inside and he'll be paired with returning starter Soulas. Riccardi returns on the outside and Reynolds will play on the other side. Senior Kurt Ferdenzi (5-foot-10, 175) is a returning starter and he'll be in the rotation, along with senior Tom Napoli (5-foot-11, 185).
One starter and a couple who started a few games return to the secondary. Returning at cornerback is senior Rob Fajardo (5-foot-9, 180). Playing the other corner will be Killian, who started a few games late in the year. The two safeties will have Campbell, Eric Fajardo, junior Andrew McGrath (6-foot-1, 175), sophomore Joe Johnson (6-foot-0, 175), and junior Andrew Vittorio (6-foot-0, 175) in the running, with Campbell starting some games.
Special Teams: The senior will be senior Jake Feury and Shaffer will punt. White and DeLosa will punt.

Question Marks: Both lines.
Recruits: Bencsko has been hearing from Monmouth, Penn, and Bucknell. Alvine will likely go to a NESCAC school. Feury has been hearing from schools. Shaffer and Riccardi will likely go lacrosse.
In the junior class, White will play somewhere. There's talent in this class, but it's still early.
