Under the radar QB Prince-Dru Bey a top talent in South Jersey

Winslow Township is home to one of the undiscovered talents in southern New Jersey. Class of 2019 quarterback Prince-Dru Bey has quietly put up impressive numbers that rank him among the best in the state this season. Through six games, Bey has thrown for 1,521 yards and 12 touchdowns. Bey is also a very capable runner, having posted 307 yards and five touchdowns.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound junior talked about his progress as a passer this season.

“I have gotten better at being patient in the pocket. There are times where I used to panic a lot, but working in the offseason, I calmed myself down and forced myself to be patient. Not too patient where I take sacks, but patient enough to where I can get the ball out to my receivers. I also feel like me being able to maneuver in the pocket came a long way too, which helped me a lot. I used to have problems with sliding up in the pocket or rolling out when I needed to. For the most part, maneuvering in the pocket has come a long way.”

Bey has also become a student of the game and part of that has to do with his success in the classroom. Bey has a cumulative grade point average that is actually higher than a 4.0.

“Since I was a kid, I always heard stories of other people coming into high school and starting off wrong. So for me, I made sure I didn’t do what I heard,” Bey said. “I knew that my grades would bring me a long way, so I stayed focused and stayed away from distractions. That is a big key in having a 4.0 GPA. Film and game prep is the same way. It is like studying for a test on Friday. I always felt like I needed to prepare and when I did not prepare, there was some guilt brought on me. In order to prepare for that test on Friday, I had to stay in my books the same way I also watch a lot of film so I can know my opponents like they were my best friends.”

Recruiting has started to pick up for Bey as his home state school of Rutgers has been maintaining contact and also invited him to attend this past weekend’s game against Purdue.

“It was pretty good. I liked the atmosphere there. As for the team, they played pretty well,” Bey said. “I like the offensive schemes that they try to do, just needs a little more execution. But in all, it was a great team win for them, as they played their hearts out. There’s nothing like being home.”

Bey is also hearing from Pitt and Monmouth and is athletic enough to play another position if asked at the college level.

“If the quarterback is needed for that particular school, then yes I am taking it. But I am open to playing another spot. Anything for a chance and to help a school out.”

Here is a look at Bey’s early season highlights.
